Children from across the city descended on Samuel Tucker Elementary School on Dec. 18 to select new toys and books as part of the annual toy drive sponsored by Firefighters and Friends to the Rescue. Alexandria musicians Robyn and Vaughn Ambrose, founders of the Yellow Door Concert Series, are determined to bring the local community together through live music. The Ambrose’s founded the Yellow Door Concert Series in 2018 after noticing a lack of opportunity for community members to experience the arts and music in Alexandria. Boeing is chipping in $50 million toward the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia, and it’s the biggest donation in Virginia Tech’s history, the university said. The multi-year commitment will help build the campus, as well as fund scholarships, fellowships, and academic programs for university students and to help steer a diverse group of K-12 students toward the technology fields. The pedestrian-only restaurant zone in Old Town has been voted to keep in place through March 2021 by the Alexandria City Council. The waterfront park of Northern Virginia city and 100 block of King Street near the Potomac River have restaurant seating on the sidewalks and along the road where cars typically would park.
